Five ways to add greenery to your home

Whether you have green fingers or are totally new to plant care, here are five simple ways to introduce greenery to your home.

With recent research linking houseplants to reduced stress and improved mental health, there's’ never been a better reason to add greenery to your home.

Whether you have green fingers or are totally new to plant care, here are five simple ways to introduce greenery to your home.

1. Incorporate indoor house plants

Indoor house plants are the easiest way to breathe life into a home and with plenty of options to suit any space and care level, there’s a plant for everyone. If you want something bold and dramatic, a fiddle-leaf fig or monstera can add height and character to any room. Just getting started? Go for low-maintenance indoor plants like snake plants, aloe vera, or peace lilies, as they can grow with minimal care and can survive in lower light conditions.

House plants are also great at improving air quality, reducing stress and creating a sense of calm in the home. It’s no wonder they’ve become a staple in modern interiors.

2. Save space with hanging planters

If you’re running out of shelf or floor space but still want to add more greenery, hanging planters are the perfect solution. Suspended from the ceiling, mounted on walls, or even attached to curtain rods, they can bring greenery into your space without taking up valuable room.

Trailing plants like ivy, string of pearls and pothos work especially well in hanging planters as their cascading vines can create a soft, organic look. If you’re looking to create a more modern aesthetic, sleek ceramic or glass planters are ideal, while macramé plant hangers are perfect for a boho-chic look.

3. Freshen up your kitchen with herbs

Growing a small herb garden in your kitchen is a great way to add greenery to your home and provide fresh ingredients for your cooking. Fresh herbs like basil, mint, rosemary and thyme can grow indoors with a little sunlight and care, making them perfect for a kitchen windowsill or countertop. Plus, you’ll be able to elevate your dishes with homegrown flavours.

Whether you plant them in decorative pots, hang them in stylish wall planters or create a vertical herb garden, a mini-herb garden is a must have for any kitchen.

4. Add greenery in unexpected places

Some of the best plant additions to your home can be the ones you least expect. Small succulents on a bathroom shelf, a trailing pothos weaving through a bookshelf or even a vase of eucalyptus on your coffee table can be the perfect way to add a touch of nature.

If you want to get creative, think outside the pot. A bowl filled with moss on a coffee table, a wreath of fresh greenery hanging on your door, or a bundle of dried lavender on your nightstand can all bring natural elements into your home without needing daily care.

5. Make the most of outdoor spaces

Whether you have a small balcony, spacious patio or garden space, maximise its potential by adding greenery. Start by adding some well-chosen planters, raised beds, or even a small veggie patch, adding these can create a green oasis just outside your door.

Mixing flowering plants, shrubs, and even a small tree or two will give your space a rich variety of textures and colours. To keep things looking coordinated, choose stylish, matching pots that tie everything together. Raised planters and decorative plant stands are also perfect for adding a personal touch, making your outdoor space feel inviting and thoughtfully designed.
