Keep moisture under control
- Open window vents where possible and wipe away condensation that builds up.
- Avoid drying clothes indoors, but if you must, use the bathroom with the door closed and the window open.
- Use extractor fans in the kitchen and bathrooms to help remove excess moisture from your new build in Winter.
- When cooking, boiling the kettle, or showering, keep doors closed to stop warm, moist air from spreading.
Encourage fresh air flow
- Leave space behind furniture to allow air to circulate around walls.
- Avoid hanging pictures or shelving on external walls for at least 12 weeks to prevent moisture from getting trapped behind them.
- Keep your washing machine and tumble dryer well-ventilated to minimise excess moisture.
Use heating efficiently
- Keep your home at a consistent, adequate temperature, even if you’re not at home to help reduce condensation. If possible, try to keep the temperature around 20 degrees as this is better for new build homes in winter.
- Limit how often you open the loft hatch during cold weather as warm air rising into a cold roof space can cause condensation.
- We also recommend avoiding storage in the loft, especially during the drying-out period.
- Once temperatures rise, take the opportunity to open windows and doors regularly to improve airflow and ventilation throughout our home.
Outdoor tap reminder
- To isolate your outdoor tap during the winter, use the external stop tap located in the driveway or footpath leading to your home.
